Track of The Month – March 2024

The Formula 1 season is back underway so we’re heading to the site of the Australian Grand Prix for our March Hotlapping Track of the Month!

Spanning a length of 3.280 miles (5.278 km) and consisting of 14 turns, the temporary street circuit of Albert Park is situated on the south coast of Australia in the city of Melbourne.

While the entirety of the track is comprised of normally public roads, each sector showcases medium to high-speed features typically found on specialised racetracks. Especially in recent years, with the removal of a chicane on the back straight in 2020, Albert Park is one of the faster tracks on the Formula 1 calendar with average speeds reaching 147 mph (236 km/h) around a lap.

The Australian Grand Prix has taken place here every year since 1996 after moving from Adelaide, where it was traditionally the final round of the F1 championship. For the majority of years throughout the 2000s and 2010s, Albert Park was the opening race for the Formula 1 season meaning it often served as a benchmark for teams to assess their competitiveness for the season ahead. However, once the pandemic hit, the Grand Prix was canceled in 2020 and 2021, it then saw a return from 2022 onwards and will be Round 3 for the 2024 calendar.

Altogether, Albert Park has quickly become a favourite among drivers and fans for its scenic setting and demanding layout and always offers an exciting early round in the Formula 1 season.

What can you drive this month?

You are welcome to drive any of the month’s vehicles at any time in an Open Practice Session. All lap times and telemetry are recorded for your immediate viewing and future reference.

New drivers to The Race Centre will be automatically classified as Class D drivers. Winning in a class at the end of the month will gain you a promotion to the next class up.

Competition Terms and Conditions

All potential prize-winning laps must be verified by a TRC staff member.

For a lap to be legal, your vehicle must have two or more wheels inside or touching the white lines at all times.

Vehicles must be running all standard TRC settings for the month.

Multiple Class wins within a month will result in prizes for the highest win only. Lower “wins” will be passed to the next highest competitors.

TRC Staff are not eligible to win prizes. Any winning positions held by staff will defer to the next highest driver.

Free entry to First Monday is for the next event and is non-transferable.

In order to win Free First Monday entry in Class A, you must be within the top 10% of fastest lap time for the month.

Open Race Meeting voucher will be valid for 6 months from the date of postage.
