The twelfth TRC event in support of BBC Children in Need since we started in 2006. With £4,000+ in 2021, the event has now generated well over £65,000 for the charity – A huge testament to the spirit, commitment and generosity of the participating teams and their supporters over the years.
A rewarding event for charitably minded race fans – It was a great test of driver skill and team management as drivers raced through the night. Yes, that’s right, the entire event was run just like the real thing. Starting with final practice and qualifying Friday morning, team briefing with Q&A, race start 1:00pm, racing through the afternoon into the sunset, through the evening and into the depths of night, eventually feeling the warmth of the morning sun, then the final push through Saturday morning and on to the chequered flag at 1:00pm. After 24 hours of non-stop racing, everyone then had a little breather whilst we collated the final fund raising totals ready to present along with celebrations for the winners!
Since the event was last run pre-COVID, there has been a huge investment in new equipment and software to take this already awesome experience to another level. Despite this, there was no increase in the entry fees which remained at the massively subsidised £300 Per Team. For teams who had done this before or not, there was literally never a better time to get involved. The entry fee was their contribution to the cost of the “fun”. With costs covered by TRC and the participating teams, all donations from friends and family went directly to BBC Children in Need via Just Giving.
Team Sizes – Teams of 3-6 drivers worked well, although Charles Grout of the TalaLuta Team did it solo this year and in VR! The important thing was that teams ensured everyone had a similar level of commitment. They didn’t want three drivers who all attended the practice sessions and one driver who turned up on race day not even knowing the basic circuit layout!
Once booked, teams shared their desired Team Name and the address for their JustGiving page. This fully secured their place and qualified their team for the optional practice sessions prior to the main event with the ability to practice in 4K VR if they wished.
It’s was a fantastic motorsport event in support of a very worthy cause. Entries came from Real Motorsport Teams, Teams of Friends, Family Groups, Local Businesses and others wishing to do something different in support of BBC Children in Need.
